With basketball season in full swing and spring sports gearing up to begin in the next three weeks, the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference announces its male and female athletes of the month for December. Two Palomar College athletes took home the honor after stellar starts to the season.
Palomar's Anthony Smith and Aaliyah Taylor were selected as the athletes-of-the-month for December in the PCAC.
Sophomore forward, Anthony Smith came to life in December. He had a career-high 25 points against MiraCosta on Dec. 11. He had two double-doubles this month. One against El Camino, scoring 17 points and nabbing 17 rebounds and the other against Moorpark (10 rebounds, 21 points). Smith recorded six blocks during the month. Smith shoots 49.6 percent in the field, is perfect on the season at the free-throw line and averages 13.6 points-per-game.
Aaliyah Taylor had her second double-double of the season against Mt. San Antonio College where she scored 20 points, a career-high, and 10 rebounds. Of their six games in December, Taylor scored double digits in four of the games, including 18 against East L.A. College to help the Comets win the Cypress College tournament. Taylor is shooting 40.9 percent in the field and averages 6.5 rebounds a game. She averages 11 points-per-game.
