Mt. San Jac's Hyder and Grossmont's Parsons take home  PCAC Men's Athlete of the Week awards

Mt. San Jacinto College basketball player C.J. Hyder and Grossmont College basketball player Bryce Parsons have been selected as Pacific Coast Athletic Conference Men's Athletes of the Week for the Week that ended on Sunday.

Hyder, a 6-foot-3 freshman combo guard from Cajon High school in San Bernardino, came up big as the Eagles, who are seeking their fifth straight PCAC North title, tipped off their conference season with a 95-70 win over San Diego Miramar.

Hyder scored 19 points, going 7-for 14 from the floor and adding 5 free throws.

Parsons, a 6-foot-1 sophomore guard out of West Hills High School, led the Griffins to a come from behind 65-63 victory on the road over San Diego Mesa, which had taken a 28-23 halftime lead behind the play of 6-foot-9, 230-pound center Armstrong Ojunkwa.

The win in the teams' PCAC South opener, came thanks to Parson's 19-point performance.

Parsons is second in scoring in the South Division, averaging 16.9 points a game with a 57.6 shooting percentage.

 

HONORABLE MENTION

Robert McCoy, Basketball, San Diego City College. Because of the award's guidelines,  McCoy couldn't be named AOTW for the second time in the same season, but the 6-foot-7 sophomore guard from Eisenhower High School in Chicago helped power the 20-2 defending state champion Knights to their 13th straight win in their South Division opener, 123-37 over Cuyamaca. He led San Diego City's balanced  attack with 14 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists, 4 steals and 2 blocks.

Logan Koch, Basketball, San Bernardino Valley. Koch, a 6-foot-5, 220-pound freshman guard from Liberty High School in Las Vegas, led the Wolverines to their 17th victory in 21 games, 95-60 over visiting Palomar in a North Division opener. He scored 17 points as he went 6-for-10 on field goals including 4 three-pointers and tacked on a free throw.

Cody Hicks, Basketball, MiraCosta. The 6-foot-3 sophomore guard from Mission Hills High School, led the Spartans past College of the Desert to open North Division play with 22 points, 6 three-pointers and 6 rebounds.
